SUMMARY:INWIC at SophiA Symposium in Cameroon
DESCRIPTION:Beginning of March 2025\, MinSante\, a partner of the SophiA consortium\, will be hosting the SophiA symposium as part of the practical training week at Edea Hospital in Cameroon.\nThe SophiA symposium will take place before the inauguration of the SophiA technologies. SophiA is a European-funded project aimed at providing African populations with access to carbon-neutral energy for electricity\, heating\, and cooling of food and medicine\, as well as safe and clean drinking water—thereby improving quality of life in a sustainable way. SophiA will develop and locally manufacture innovative\, modular\, flexible\, affordable and efficient solar containers to provide the local population with:\n• Safe\, clean drinking water and deionised water for medical purposes.\n• Hot water and steam production for hospital thermal requirements.\n• Emergency electricity supply for surgical and intensive care units.\n• Cooling of medicine to +5°C – possibly food cooling.\n• Low-temperature storage of blood plasma at -30°C.\n• Ultra-low-temperature storage of sensitive medication (e. g. some Covid-19 or Ebola vaccines) at -70°C.\n\nIn January 2025\, the 2iE partner held the “Train the Trainers” session in Yaoundé\, Cameroon\, where 23% of the participants were women. Learn more on the SophiA website.\nINWIC will be promoted as part of the activities of the IIR CaRe Working Group\, alongside the results of the Women in Cooling Worldwide survey.

SUMMARY:2024 Indoor Air Quality Conference
DESCRIPTION:Good quality indoor air is critical for good health. Australians spend 90 per cent of their time indoors – in the home\, office\, or other types of buildings – where airborne particles\, gases\, chemicals\, mould\, and other pollutants can cause headaches\, eye irritation\, allergies\, and fatigue. Serious pollutants can cause certain types of cancers and other long-term health complications. \nSupplying clean air through a building’s heating\, ventilation\, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems can prevent many environmental health hazards such as asthma. According to Asthma Australia\, asthma affects one in nine Australians (around 2.7 million people). \nThe Indoor Air Quality Conference 2024 will be held in Melbourne from July 15–16. \nThe purpose of this conference is to provide AIRAH members and the broader industry with a platform for discussing issues related to indoor air quality (IAQ). The major theme of the conference is exploring new and emerging technologies to better understand the science of indoor air quality (IAQ). \nINWIC will take part in this event and promote its activities by distributing flyers and brochures on its stand.

SUMMARY:ASHRAE/AIA/APPA/BOMA/IFMA Decarbonization Conference for the Built Environment
DESCRIPTION:The Decarbonization Conference for the Built Environment will be an information and idea exchange\, between stakeholders in the built environment industry\, concerning the timely and important topic of reducing carbon emissions from buildings. The goal is to discuss the design\, construction\, ownership\, and operation of facilities targeted for reduced or neutral impact on the environment with respect to carbon footprint. A primary objective of the conference is to enhance the knowledge base in North America on decarbonization efforts. \nThe conference is organized by ASHRAE\, AIA\, APPA\, BOMA\, and IFMA. \nThe conference will focus on educating attendees on methods to decrease carbon emissions\, both embodied and operational\, in order to reduce the impact of buildings on the climate crises. The conference program will address current and future governmental policies and regulations for which engineers\, architects\, owners and operators need to be aware of to address environmentally-responsible building requirements. \n“The goal of this conference is to bring persons who work in all aspects of building design\, construction\, operation\, ownership and management into the same room to address how the building industry as a whole can improve the impact buildings have on the global climate crises\,” said ASHRAE President-Elect Ginger Scoggins. “Since building design\, construction and operation contribute close to 40% of total global emissions of carbon\, it is imperative that we all work together to develop a path forward to address our impact”. \n“The built environment generates nearly 40 percent of CO2 emissions annually with approximately 27 percent attributed to building operations\, placing significant responsibility for reducing operational and embodied carbon emissions on the built environment industry. We must take the lead in ensuring that what we design\, construct\, operate and manage is achieved thoughtfully\, strategically\, collaboratively. Working together to reduce or reverse the harmful impacts of our buildings is empowering\, but we need direction on how to go about it. ASHRAE’s Decarbonization Conference will help us integrate our perspectives to help our industry take meaningful action.” – Laurie A. Gilmer\, P.E.\, CFM\, FMP\, SFP\, LEED AP\, Chair\, IFMA’s Global Board of Directors

SUMMARY:26th IIR International Congress of Refrigeration 21st - 22nd August with special INWIC Event at the ICR 2023: Empowering Women in Cooling and Refrigeration on 21st August
DESCRIPTION:26th IIR International Congress of Refrigeration\nRefrigeration is both ubiquitous in our world and indispensable to our society. The Covid 19 pandemic that we have been experiencing since the beginning of 2020 has clearly shown this. But this very useful refrigeration is also a major energy consumer and contributes significantly to the greenhouse effect. In the 21st century\, refrigeration will either be sustainable or it won’t be! This is why the organizing committee has decided to organize this congress under the theme “Towards efficient\, controlled and smart Refrigeration” \nThe International Congress of Refrigeration 2023 is the world’s largest gathering of scientists\, experts\, technicians and professionals in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning. It provides a unique forum to present and disseminate the results of research\, development and innovation. \n  \nINWIC Event: Empowering Women in Cooling and Refrigeration\nRegister here. \n\n\nCooling and refrigeration are crucial for our health\, nutrition\, comfort\, and well-being. This sector contributes significantly to safeguard the environment\, advance welfare of humanity and support the growth of employment and economics worldwide. \nWomen engagement in this sector is either under-represented or unrecognized around the globe despite of the high potential that can be unleashed by encouraging women to pursue education and job opportunities in cooling. This workshop will explore the role of women in promoting and developing sustainable cooling in different world regions. It will showcase women’s experience working in the sector and demonstrate what can be achieved when women are empowered to make a difference. \nThis event is an INWIC (International Network for Women in Cooling) event organised with the IIR Working Group on CaRe (Careers in Refrigeration). \nProgramme: \nModerator: Andrea Voight\, Head of Global Public Affairs / Industry Affairs & Communication\, Danfoss \n4 panellists: \n\nColleen Keyworth\, INWIC president & Women in HVACR\, USA\nSawsan Bawaresh\, Cool-UP country manager\, Jordan\nLaura Fedele\, Winner of the IIR Women award\, Italy\nMary Najjuma\, LSBU PhD Researcher- Rural Efficient and Optimal Cooling Hubs\n\nThis session format is a roundtable discussion\, with the audience being able to ask some questions of the panellists. \nTo more about the ICR 2023 different workshops\, please visit: https://www.icr2023.org/workshops \nThis event is FREE of charge to the conference registered participants and will be in Room 352A. \nIf you have not registered to attend the ICR 2023 and you are interested to attend just this specific meeting\, it is possible to buy a One Day Pass for 380 Euros!
